When you say "sit" does your dog present you with that “there’s no way I’m going to do what you say” look? When you try to take him for a walk, does he resist? If the answer is "yes" then you need to learn some dog training techniques. There are harmless and aid free ways to train your dog to listen to what you have to say to him.

I would like to share with you one training method which I personally use. I term this technique the “nothing in life will be free” method. In essence, it works by using the notion that your dog has to do something to get something in return. This could be anything from him having to remain seated until your make his dinner to him having to remain quiet before you take him on a walk. This technique works as sooner or later your pet dog will understand that in order to get something he wants, he has to do something you want. What do you do if he doesn’t obey? Walk away. Don’t shout at him, just leave him and come back to try again soon. He will soon understand who is in charge.

When dogs are born they often have siblings and their mother is the “Leader of the pack”, when a young dog leaves his mother he starts to think that he is free and can do what he wants. When he comes to join your family, he will try to act dominant. He will want to feel like he is in charge of the house. The biggest mistake you can make is to let him feel this way. He knows he doesn’t have to be aggressive to try to gain control. He may just rely on the sympathy vote to gain a foothold. It is of paramount importance that you never give in.

Your kids can come in handy in terms of training dogs. This is because dogs tend to view them as playmates above anything else. Because of this your children can actually teach your dog basic dog training techniques on your behalf will more success usually. Always supervise young children though when they are around animals.

Dog Training techniques are extremely efficient and very simple to carry out, the training doesn’t even seem like training it just requires repetition and you dog will soon catch on that nothing in life is free!
